MEDIA RELEASE: Breathing fresh air into Perth's classical music scene

On Sunday 21st November at 2pm, at Moana Hall, Tenth Muse Initiative will mount a cross-genre showcase with a plethora of young local artists, inviting audiences to experience the intersections between classical, folk, and RnB music.

Music will include a sound meditation based on field recordings, a contemporary choral trio, an experimental piece based on the word ‘woah’, some folksy love songs, and a mini set by incredible local RnB/soul legend Jewel Owusu. Featuring pieces and songs written by Victor Arul, Izzy French, Madeline Hammond, Kate Milligan, Julia Nicholls, Jewel Owusu, Lara Pollard, and Liam Russell, and all woven together by the words of local poet Sara Morgillo, this event will have something for everyone.

Kate Milligan is a Perth-born composer, conductor, and researcher. When asked why she chose to be part of this project she said:

“There’s a certain joy that you’ll find in Tenth Muse Initiative (that you won’t often find elsewhere) that arises from diversity of appreciation. It’s a pleasure to support an organisation that so wholeheartedly celebrates music-making beyond the canon. Their programmes are colourful, dynamic, and inclusive. The upcoming concert promises to be all of this and more, and I’m stoked to be a part of it.”

We’re thrilled to feature one of Perth's most exciting musical names. “After making an entrance with her debut single Susie last year, Jewel Owusu's become a genre-mixing force-to-watch creating forward-thinking art from a versatile mix of musical influences, forging together textures of pop, indie, hip-hop, R&B and beyond to create something uniquely Jewel Owusu - something we've had the privilege of watching unveil over the last 12 months or so.” - Hayden Davies, Pilerats.

Come and celebrate the creative melting pot that is Boorloo/Perth and take a breath of fresh air.

Attending concerts can be expensive, but as part of a commitment to improving accessibility in Art Music, Tenth Music Initiative will be offering tickets to ‘fresh air’ on a sliding scale basis - allowing patrons to pay a lesser amount if they need to, or pay more if they're able to.
